 A GDS POST OFFICE CAN DO 90% OF THE FOLLOWING  PRODUCTS/ SERVICES OFFERED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF POSTS, ONLY THE LACK OF WILL POWER OF OUR MANAGEMENT/GOVT. DOES NOT ALLOW AND KEEPS THE GDS IN DIFFERENT CATEGORY AND SAID Gramin Dak Sevaks, about 2,65,000 in number are a 

distinct category of employees, who do not form part of 
the regular civil service. They are governed by a 
separate set of conduct and engagement rules.  They 
are engaged for 3 to 5 hours in a day(IS IT TRUE/THEORETICAL).  Their livelihood is not solely dependent on the allowances paid by the 
Postal Department.   They are mandatorily required to 
possess independent sources of income(are  they allowed for any agency?) for adequate 
means of livelihood.  ARE THESE  STATEMENT PRACTICALLY HAPPENING  OR OTHERWISE TOBE EXAMINED TO GIVE THE GDSs JUSTICE.

1.         Traditional Mail:
(i)            Post card, inland letter card, book post, envelopes, business reply service, parcels.
(ii)          Add on features -  Registration, cash on delivery (value payable post), insurance.
2.         Premium Products:
(i)            Speed Post – Time specific and assured delivery service.
(ii)          Business Post – Includes pre-mailing activities for bulk mail.
(iii)         Express Parcel Post – Express delivery of parcel through surface transportation to  corporate customers.
(iv)         Logistic Post – Delivery of heavy parcels and consignment loads.

3.         E-enabled services:
(i)            e-Post – bridges the divide between those who have access to computers/ internet and those who do not.
(ii)          E-Bill Post – This is an information technology enabled service for payment of utility Bills.
(iii)         Bill Mail Service – A cost effective solution for mailing of periodic communications in the nature of financial statements.
4.         Money Transfer:
(i)                 Domestic money order service.
·         Electronic Money Order (eMO) – Money transfer takes place electronically. A maximum amount of Rs.5000/- can be remitted in one eMO.
·         Instant Money Order (iMO) –An on line money transfer system where he remittance takes place instantly. The range of money which can be remitted through this service is from Rs.5,000/-  to Rs.50,000/-.
(ii)               International Money Transfer System – Transfer of money from Foreign Countries to India being implemented in collaboration with M/s Western Union Money Transfer and M/s Moneygram. Remittance through International Financial System (IFS) in partnership with posts in other countries is also possible.
5.         Financial Services:
(i)            Post Office Savings Bank Accounts – SB, Recurring Deposit, Time Deposit, Monthly Income Scheme, Senior Citizen Savings Scheme, PPF, NSC, KVP.
(ii)          Core Banking Solution;
(iii)         Third Party Products –Retailing of Mutual Funds, New Pension Scheme etc.

6.         Postal Life Insurance:
(i)         Postal Life Insurance – Oldest life insurance scheme for the benefit of employees of Government, public sector and autonomous bodies.
(ii)        Rural Postal Lile Insurance Caters to insurance requirement of rural populace.

7.         Retail Services:
(i)            Bill collection.
(ii)          Data collection – Election Commission of India, Registrar General of India.
(iii)         Sale of application forms of UPSC, Universities, etc.
(iv)         Payment of wages to beneficiaries of MGNREGS, Payment of Old Age Pension, etc.
(v)          Booking of Railway Tickets
